– From Drawers to Shelves

I’ve been seeing all the rustic wood look over blogland and I’ve been drooling. From reclaimed wood to old doors to all those palettes as coffee tables, all of these are my favorites.I want that look, I really want that look but of course, I don’t know how to use a jigsaw 🙁
Finally, I got an idea …I have a small wooden cabinet sitting in my garage for about 7 months now. It was collecting dust. I love its rustic feel but I didn’t have any use for it in my home. I pulled its drawers and hung them as shelves. I needed an extra storage in my kitchen and it was the best solution to cover that empty wall of my kitchen.

This is the before picture of the cabinet

One picture of my kitchen table/office 🙂

And here is how it looks now:

I mentioned before in later posts that I wanted to have 4 different chairs, paint them one color and use the same fabric to upholster them but after I stained and upholstered this bench ( you can check it out here)  I fell in love with it and just used 2 different chairs instead. You can see these chairs here and here.

Yellow and gold it matches my decor

The tablecloth is actually a shower curtain but I loved its pattern and I didn’t care cause no one will notice

I just love these knobs

It was the easiest project, just glued some picture hangers at the back of the drawer and hung them and in case I changed my mind I can still use them as drawers

So what about you? do you love the rustic look? did I achieve the rustic feel in my kitchen?

  1. I think this is a great idea..I love the old wood look. Could you use the tall wooden drawer stand as a shelf if you turned it the other way and hung it up? I have that same bird cage…never thought to paint it..I might just give it a fresh coat of paint now lol.

    All the best,
    Rachel

  2. What a creative idea! I thought that the next time I saw an abandoned dresser on the side of the road, that I could turn the drawers into pull-outs underneath our cribs/beds (with castors attached underneath). I hadn't thought to turn drawers into shelves. So great!
(I'm also totally in love with your chairs. I have dreams of teal furniture in our kitchen….one day. There are too many other projects on the go right now!
What paint colour did you use on your chairs?

  3. I love reusing old drawers too – yours look absolutely wonderful!

I hope you'll drop by and share this at Knick of Time Tuesday!

    Blessings,

  8. What a great idea!!!! I love using drawers as shelves, but this is the best idea I have ever seen, so totally cute! And way to think out of the box using a shower curtain as a tablecloth. I would love to share your "smartness" on my blog if that is ok with you? My blog name is Ms Smartie Pants and when I see someone do something really smart I like to show them off. Would that be ok with you?

  9. This is so cute!! I must try doing this to our dining room (when we get around to doing something with it…right now its empty)…we are going for a rustic old world chic and this will be perfect! We also have lots of neat mugs from our travels and I have been wanting to find a way to store them and this would show them off as well! Thanks so much!

  12. So fresh, and cool use of the drawers…makes me go hmmm…exactly why I love blogs. You could even hang an old key or Christmas ornament from the little handle. I love your colors and the Bohemian flair the yellow bird cage gives it.
